Terms of Use (Beta)

Welcome to Bartera. These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Bartera platform, located at bartera.net, including all related features, services, and tools ("Service"). By using Bartera, you agree to these Terms.

1. Beta Disclaimer

Bartera is currently offered as a beta version, which may contain bugs, instability, or incomplete features. You acknowledge that:

• Errors or interruptions may occur
• Features may change at any time
• Data loss is possible
• Performance is not guaranteed

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old. Users under 18 must have parental/guardian consent.

3. Accounts

You agree to:

• Provide accurate registration information
• Maintain the security of your account
• Notify us of unauthorized access

To send or accept trade offers, you must verify a valid phone number via SMS. This phone verification is required for all trading activity and helps protect the community from fraud and abuse.

We may suspend accounts for violations.

4. Platform Purpose

Bartera enables users to list items, find trade partners, communicate, and generate shipping labels. Bartera does not take possession of items, ship items, or guarantee user behavior.

Trades occur directly between users.

5. User Responsibilities

You agree to:

• Only list items you own
• Describe items accurately
• Provide correct weight/dimensions
• Package items safely
• Follow all applicable laws

6. Payments & Shipping

Bartera charges a shipping fee for each completed trade. The shipping fee is calculated based on the package weight, dimensions, and distance between origin and destination addresses. The shipping fee includes carrier costs. The total shipping fee will be displayed to you at checkout prior to payment. By completing payment you agree to pay the shipping fee as displayed.

Additional charges may include applicable taxes. All payments are processed securely via Stripe.

Automatic label generation: Once both parties have completed payment, Bartera automatically generates a shipping label (including a tracking number) for each user's package. Labels are produced through Shippo and delivered on the trade tracking page, where you can print and track each package.

Shipping commitment: Once both parties have paid, each user must ship their item(s) within 3 business days (excluding weekends and U.S. federal holidays). Users may request a 1- or 2-day extension through the tracking page; longer extensions require contacting support.

Trade tracking: Trade status progresses automatically — pending → accepted → payment → ready to ship → in progress → delivered → completed. Bartera polls carrier tracking to update shipment status (in transit, delivered) automatically.

Counter offers: A received offer may be countered up to 5 rounds. Each counter expires after 48 hours if unanswered. After 5 rounds, the recipient must accept or decline.

Disputes: If something goes wrong, users may file a dispute through the platform. Bartera's support team reviews disputes and may facilitate refunds or take account action.

Shipping costs are non-refundable once a label is generated. If a trade is cancelled before any label is generated, the shipping fee is refunded. See the Refund & Payment Policy for details.

7. No User Guarantees

We cannot guarantee:

• Delivery
• Item quality or authenticity
• Completion of trades
• User honesty
• Carrier performance

8. Prohibited Activities

You may not:

• List illegal or prohibited items
• Harass users
• Spam or mass-message
• Use bots or automation
• Attempt fraud
• Tamper with the platform
• Misrepresent item condition
• Attempt to bypass phone verification

9. IP Ownership

All Bartera content is owned by Bartera Inc. You may not copy, modify, or distribute platform materials.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate access if:

• You violate the Terms
• Fraud or abuse is detected
• The beta program changes

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Bartera Inc. is not liable for losses including:

• Lost or damaged items
• User disputes
• Shipping carrier issues
• Platform bugs or downtime
• Lost data

12. Updates

We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service means you accept the updated Terms.
